PlayStation 5 releases November 12 in the U.S. and November 19 in Europe, but don’t bother waiting in line to buy one. Sid Shuman, Sony’s Director of Communications, said all PS5 launch sales will be completed online.
Shuman cited COVID-19 as the reason for the decision. He said:
In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.
Note this only applies to purchases made on launch day. Retailers will still fulfill pre-orders intended for store pick-up.
However, Shuman recommended consumers contact the retailer to confirm the pick-up and their specific safety measures.
Getting the system is just the first part. If you’re still on the fence about what PS5 launch games to pick up, check out our list of every PS5 launch title to find the one (or five) that’s right for you.
