5 Best Valheim Mods to Download Now

If you're looking to make the most of your Viking survival experience, these are the 5 best Valheim mods you need to download right now.

Valheim mods are aplenty, with many of them greatly improving the game's winning survival formula. Though the Viking game is still in Early Access, it's garnered quite the following, with many players already using their skills to mod the game into something even better. But which mods are the best? Which ones should you download first?

In this slideshow, we're taking a look at five best mods that give Valheim that extra sumthin' sumthin'. These all come from Nexus Mods mod manager since the game doesn't yet have native support on Steam. Alongside these, you can find texture pack after texture pack to make your world seed look exactly like you want it, though we won't be including those here.

First Person View

Sometimes you only need a change of perspective to better appreciate things. In this case, modder Kailen_ decided Valheim could do with some first-person action a la' Skyrim.

This mod does exactly what it says on the box, while also allowing you to zoom all the way in for a Viking's-eye view of the beautiful world around you.

It's helpful for hunting deer and boar in the dense underbrush of the Meadows and Black Forest biomes, and it's great for sniping Draugr from afar. It's also useful for surveying new biomes for hazards and enemies before you enter them since you now have a better line of sight.

Equipment & Quick Slots

Having separate slots for equipped armor is such a standard practice that it's surprising such functionality wasn't already integrated into Valheim. Regardless, it seems that modder Randyknapp felt the same way.

This mod integrates so seamlessly with Valheim — and makes splitting stacks and deleting items less mandatory  that it wouldn't be surprising if the devs reach out to make it a core addition to the game.

With equipment slots for all your bronze armor pieces (or any other armor, for that matter), as well as three quick slots to keep your food, mead, or healing potions at the ready, this is one of the best Valheim mods out there.

Craft from Containers

Craft from Containers is one of those useful, quality-of-life mods that lets you pull from nearby containers to craft, build, smelt, and cook without going back and forth to your chests. You can even fuel the various crafting stations and workbenches in the game using this mod.

Made by Aedenthorn, this mod is great for when you're building out your hall and have stacks and stacks of stone and lumber that would otherwise have you massively over-encumbered. Hundreds of trips to your various chests are a thing of the past! Just use this mod to transfer items more efficiently.

Map Sync

This is a must-have Valheim mod if you're playing the Viking survival game co-op. It allows you and your group to split up and explore the map while sharing your findings with each other.

It's worth noting that Benocs' map sync mod is client-side, not server-side, so all players must have it installed on their game file. If you're wondering how to place map markers otherwise, we have a nifty guide on just that.

Valheim Plus

Last but not least is Valheim Plus, a large collection of QoL modification options. This one is so expansive that it covers much of the same ground as other individual mods, making it the go-to Valheim mod right now.

Valheim Plus lets you configure things like stamina usage and regeneration, the speed of processing resources like iron ore in the smelter, carry weight, and even the radius of the workbench. Additionally, it adds more options when it comes to building out your base, whether with wood or with stone, and general game difficulty. If you're looking for a highly customizable Valheim experience, then this is the mod for it.

It's highly recommended that you read the mod page in its entirety before installing this mod, as the instructions are rather extensive.
