Borderlands 3 has just received its most requested feature: crossplay. The feature is now live by way of the game’s latest update, though not for every platform.
Borderlands 3 crossplay functionality has been added for PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia. However, crossplay will not be available on PlayStation consoles. Despite receiving a next-gen upgrade from PS4 to PS5 at the tail end of 2020, players on those systems won’t be able to team up with friends or other players on PC, Mac, Xbox, or Stadia.
While Borderlands 3 crossplay is a feature many PlayStation players want, it’s still not clear if the functionality will ever appear on the platform. Sony however does want crossplay for their platform and across the industry, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan.
In a recent interview with Axios Ryan directly stated that “we support and encourage crossplay” before noting that many popular titles like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Minecraft all support crossplay, with Destiny 2 set to be added to that list later on this year.
The update available to all players also increases the level cap and allows players to return to previous season quests that can now be accessed whenever they like, rather than only being available for a limited time.
