Does Hades God Mode Disable Achievements, Trophies?

Does activating God Mode in Hades disable achievements and trophies? Is there a penalty for turning it on?

Hades can be a very punishing roguelike. Though there are plenty of Boons and Talents that make escaping the Underworld more manageable, some of the bosses are no joke, and escaping can be tough. That’s where God Mode comes in, and you may be wondering if it disables achievements or trophies, or if it carries a penalty.

The short answer is no: Hades‘ God Mode does not disable achievements or trophies, nor does it carry any sort of penalty. Instead, it makes the game easier in some respects, adding an increasing buff that lasts across playthroughs.

Since there are technically no difficulty settings in Hades, God Mode acts as a sort of difficulty modifier. It confers a 20% defense buff on your first run, the very first time you select it. For each subsequent run, that buff increases by 2%, making you more resistant to enemy attacks after every return to the House of Hades.

It maxes out at 80% damage reduction, and it persists on your save file whether you have the mode active or not. Essentially, you’ll never lose the percentage you’ve accrued.

God Mode can be toggled on and off in the “Settings” menu. To access it, pause the game, and choose “Settings.” Scroll down to “Subtitles,” then scroll right to highlight the GM check box under in the middle.

When you exit the menu for the first time, Zagreus will get a 20% damage reduction buff, denoted by text that appears above his head. When you turn GM off, you’ll see in-game text saying the percentage buff has been removed, including a minus sign and the number for whatever percentage you’ve acquired so far.

Again, this doesn’t mean you’ve lost the percentage you’ve accrued; it just means that GM is turned off.

That’s essentially what you need to know about God Mode in Hades, how to use it, and whether it disables achievements or trophies (it doesn’t!). For more on Hades, consider checking out our other help articles, which cover things like best weapons, the Pact of Punishment, and door symbols.
