Chain Blaster Blew Me Away

Chain Blaster is a fun take on a classic arcade game. Definitely a must for Galaga fans.

One of the most well-known arcade games of all time is Galaga. Who hasn’t at least seen it played? And it’s so simple. You just move the spaceship left and right across the bottom of the screen and shoot at invading aliens.

But what if we made it a little more complicated?

Chain Blaster is basically 3D Galaga, but it removes the movement limitations of the classic game. Instead, you’re free to move your SHIP all around the screen as you fire at your enemies. Of course, in Chain Blaster you’re not fighting aliens. You’re an anti-virus defending the world’s supercomputer against a virus.

It also adds a few cool features like “Chain Blast” (huh, wonder where the game title came from) which allows you to fire a special shot at the point where the lines of enemy SHIPS cross on the screen. This special shot annihilates all enemies in those lines and gives you a nice point bonus.

As a fan of Galaga (I play it whenever I go to a movie theater or an arcade), this game is a nice change of pace. With the increase of mobility comes an increase in difficulty. Avoiding the virus ships is more of a challenge when they’re coming at you from all sides.

I love that it’s something you can carry around with you, too. It’s the perfect game to play when you’re bored. Whether you’re waiting at the doctor’s office or the airport, this is a fun game to pass the time and keep you entertained. Plus, you don’t have to keep paying for a new round every single time you die. If you’re like me and die quite often, that’s a huge point in its favor.

Personally, I didn’t pay much attention to the bottom screen. I found it to be a bit distracting, hence the 9/10 score this game received. Sure, it may be helpful to some people, but I was focusing more on the not-dying aspect of the game.

I only played the free demo available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, but I’m sold. This game is definitely going on my “To Buy” list, and at only $6.99, I may soon own the full game.
