A Few Minecraft Tips and Tricks

5 tips and tricks I wanted to share about Minecraft!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

I’ve spent the past 2-3 years playing Minecraft with some very seasoned players. I would say, I’ve learned some of the tricks of the game through their help and guidance.

Fences Make Great Air Pockets.

I’ve tried building many structures under water and we come up with the same difficulty – breathing. Even in the Minecraft world breathing underwater can be a problem even with respiration and aqua affinity helmets. A good tip would be to bring along a stack of wooden fences. You can place them up to your height, or stack them. Hell, you can make a line with them to guide you to your projects!

Labeling with Signs on Chests

With a new update you can shift + click and place a sign on a chest. I love this update because, no matter when I play Minecraft, my chest room better be spectacular, hold enough for a small town or army, and it all better be perfectly labeled.

Fancy Lighting – The “Cheating” Style

With a recent update including item frames, you can make some very generic lighting that fancies up any room. Simply place down a torch first, then an item frame on top of it, and WITHIN the item frame put a trap door. It makes any room look like a king lives there, and I’m very big into interior decorating, Minecraft style.

Designer Rooms, Cube Style

A good tip when making any room: add some plants. I know with flower-pots now you can put in mini-shrubs and make them look gorgeous, well I still prefer potted plants. This is easy by just using a cauldron and putting leaves of any style on top. They look so adorable in a corner, or even just sitting there.

A Trash-Bin to Hide

I’ve played with many people on survival servers, and you gain a lot of trash along the way. Who really needs a double-chest of zombie flesh? Well, since they put hoppers into the game you can just put a hopper down and let them fall into a lava pit under the ground. That way, you have no chance of re-picking it up, and it’s easily hidden. If you really wanna be fancy about it, but a trap door on top and it adds just that flair.

Mods that are REALLY helpful

I’m very spoiled in Minecraft. I started playing with a full jar file from a friend, including a texture pack and mods to help me build. I honestly can’t play without Reis minimap or an equivalent, and Optifine. At the time, my laptop was very bad, and even with a new and improved laptop I find myself still liking options Optifine has. I would recommend them to any Minecraft player. And, if you’re into fighting, MacroMod is the way to go! You can bind skills from heros to keys, and even commands.

I hope you enjoyed a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. If you’ve heard these, I apologize and maybe next time I’ll put some up that will rock your world!
