Kecleon, the camouflaging Pokemon, can be hard to find in Pokemon GO, and you may be wondering if it can be shiny when you do catch it. The rare Pokemon was added at the beginning of 2023, bringing all Hoenn Pokemon to the game. To get it, you have to spend some extra time searching, so here’s what you need to know.
How to Catch in Pokemon Go
Finding a Kecleon is not as straightforward as catching other Pokemon in GO since it doesn’t randomly appear in the wild. Instead, it hides at PokeStops.
When looking at a PokeStop, you may see an “invisible” Kecleon blending in with the background. Its outline, as well as its red strip, will still be noticeable. If you try to spin the PokeStop you’ll also receive this message: “There’s an invisible obstacle in your way. It’s preventing you from collecting items.”
When that occurs, tap the Kecleon until it leaves the PokeStop. Stick around, though, as it will now appear on the map nearby as a Pokemon you can catch. It may take a moment, so give it a little time to show up.
Kecleon can show up on PokeStops you’re not close to, which is not a bug as previously thought. Due to its rarity, it can take 15 or more stops before one shows up. It also won’t spawn if the PokeStop has been taken over by Team Rocket.
Can Kecleon Be Shiny? Answered
While Kecleon is rare to find, obtaining a Shiny Kecleon is an even rarer feat. First introduced into Pokemon GO during the Pokemon GO Hoenn Tour Global event at the end of February 2023, Shiny Kecleon had an increased spawn rate during the event.
While other Pokemon have had their Shiny versions disabled after the event, Shiny Kecleon appears to still be spawning — but very rarely. So keep your eyes peeled.
