Lugia is a legendary Pokemon with high defense and high CP in Pokemon GO. Known as a powerful ‘mon perfect for the Master League, having to face it when out on your adventures is almost guaranteed. With that in mind, you’ll want to know the best movesets and counters to defeat it, as well as any weaknesses it has. Here’s how to beat Lugia in Pokemon GO.
Tips for Beating Lugia in Pokemon GO
Lugia Attacks
Lugia has two Fast Attacks, Dragon Tail (Dragon) and Extrasensory (Psychic). Its Charged Attacks can be Hydro Pump (Water), Sky Attack (Flying), Future Sight (Psychic), and Aeroblast (Flying). Aeroblast is a Raid attack, and can only be taught to Lugia by using an Elite TM.
When it comes to Pokemon GO Battle League, Psychic and Flying moves will most likely be utilized for the same type attack bonus.
Lugia Weaknesses
Lugia is a Psychic/Flying dual-type Pokemon, making it weak to the following types of moves:
- Electric
- Dark
- Ice
- Ghost
- Rock
On the other end of the spectrum, Lugia is resistant to Psychic, Grass, Fighting, and Ground-type attacks. You’ll want to avoid having Pokemon with those attacks, especially Fighting and Ground, when battling against it.
Avoid bringing out any Grass, Bug, Psychic, or Fighting type Pokemon as Lugia will exploit their weaknesses.
Best Lugia Counters
Lugia is known to have a variety of Charge Attacks. While that makes countering it a bit trickier, there are really only two options for Charged Attacks that are high damage:
- Aeroblast
- Future Sight
With that in mind, the best counters are those resistant to Flying and Psychic, along with dealing damage that Lugia is weak to. Take advantage of the same-type attack bonus when selecting your final team. Here are some good choices:
- Galarian Darmanitan using Ice Fang and Avalanche
- Xurkitree using Thundershock and Discharge
- Darkrai using Snarl and Shadow Ball
- Chandelure using Hex and Shadow Ball
- Rampardos using Smack Down and Rock Slide
