The zompocalypse happened for a reason. Find out why L.A. became Dead Island 2‘s Hell-A by investigating the collectible Journals under the header of The Truth. Here’s where to find every single one of them.
These files are all concerned with some part of the actual story behind the Los Angeles outbreak, which means this guide involves mild spoilers.
Many of the files in this category are found by talking to the sKOpe units that are found all over LA. While you can find sKOpes as early as Bel-Air, they’re all useless until you reactivate the network during the Ocean Avenue story quest “The Search for Truth.” That triggers a scavenger hunt where you can go back through the game to collect increasingly creepy, revelatory files by speaking with sKOpes.

All The Truth Journal Locations in Dead Island 2
Autophage: 9
- #1: L.A. Evac: Driver Handbook: On your first visit to Venice Beach, you’ll climb out of the sewers into a crowded lot full of city buses. Go forward from the manhole and turn right, towards the bus with an open door, and pick up the clipboard inside.
- #2: Processed Meat: During “Boardwalking Dead,” as you’re heading southwest down the Santa Monica Pier, keep an eye out for a tablet on the ground outside the Pier Grill. If you’ve reached the Bucket o’ Fish, you went too far.
- #3: The Infection Within: During “Blood Drive,” after you’ve obtained the blood sample, you can find this on a box by the side of the path as you walk out onto the beach by the Pier.
- #4: The Mighty Bundy: Read the tablet in the Lifeguard HQ by the Pier, near the fast-travel point.
- #5: HK1: After “The Search for Truth,” return to the Goat Pen house in Bel-Air and talk to the sKOpe that’s in front of the TV near the kitchen.
- #6: B-03 Urgent Query: After “The Search for Truth,” go back to the arcade on the Pier and talk to the sKOpe in its office.
- #7: B-14 Reporting In: Check inside the blue lifeguard station on the beach south of the Pier to find an abandoned phone.
- #8: The Book of Flyboy: When you first reach street level on Hollywood Boulevard, turn around and take a second look at the dead pilot by the helicopter to find his flight log.
- #9: Apex Variants: You might overlook it at the time, but this can be found on the floor during the last big battle in “Hollywood Ending.”
Word of the Day: 17
As noted above, these Journals aren’t available until you reactivate the sKOpe network.

- #2: Precession of the Equinoxes: Talk to the sKOpe on the multimedia case on the wall in Colt Swanson’s living room in Bel-Air.
- #3: Viracocha: You must have completed the side quest “The Death of the Party” to have access to this sKOpe, which is on the mantle of the fireplace in Curtis Sinclair’s study. (No, his other study. Why does Curtis have two fireplaces?)
- #4: Caustic: This sKOpe can be found on one of the tables in the military evacuation site at the Halperin Hotel. If you’re facing the Hotel’s front door, turn left before the stairs.
- #5: Euthanasia: Talk to the sKOpe on the Halperin Hotel’s reception desk.
- #6: Symbiosis: Return to the water treatment plant in western Beverly Hills and talk to the sKOpe unit on the counter in the gate control room.

- #8: Noah’s Ark: West of Michael’s home in Beverly Hills, you’ll find an open, empty house with a blue roof. Its sKOpe is on a bureau in the corner of its bedroom, on the second floor, in the same room as the Divine Mindlessness Journal.
- #9: Geomagnetic Reversal: Complete “Resurrect the Rex” in Beverly Hills to get the key to Farouk’s house. His sKOpe is underneath the TV in his living room.
- #10: Deluge Myth: Check out Kelli Jo Longetieg’s sKOpe in her trailer on the Monarch Studios lot.

- #15: OSK: During or after “Scooped!”, enter the LA24 offices on Ocean Avenue and talk to the sKOpe in the conference room on the second floor.
- #16: Autophage: Talk to the sKOpe in the Lifeguard HQ by the Pier.
- #17: Chthonic: The last sKOpe you need for this collection is next to the fast-travel point in the Metro, on a nearby shelf.
OK, Konstant: 5
The first 3 Journals in this category are all pivotal for understanding Dead Island 2’s plot. You’re arguably only “supposed” to find them after you’ve completed the story.
Four out of the 5 files here aren’t available until the sKOpe network’s back up, as detailed above.
- #1: Thwump!: Return to the master bedroom in the construction site in Beverly Hills and talk to the sKOpe on the nightstand.
- #2: Krishna: In Rodriguez’s lifeguard tower in Venice Beach, go into the first-floor kitchen to find a sKOpe on the counter.
- #3: Autophage Aftermath: Venice Autos in eastern Venice Beach has a sKOpe in the office in its garage.
- #4: Voice Transcript: Talk to the sKOpe on the desk in the back of the Re-Aging Clinic on Hollywood Boulevard.
- #5: Read Only Once Safe: This can be found in the secret lab behind the Re-Aging Clinic on Hollywood Boulevard, on the desk in the operating theater.
