When in Dead Island 2’s beautiful rendition of post-zompocalyptic Venice Beach, you may run across the story of Jo, the allegedly Dutch guy who ran two of the local rental shops, and his attempts to flee Hell-A before it was too late. Here’s how to find out what’s happened to him with a walkthrough guide to the Lost & Found side quest “Jo’s Rainy Day Stash.”
Jo’s Rainy Day Stash Lost and Found Walkthrough Guide
The quest to raid Jo’s stash begins from the smaller of the two Jo’s Rentals locations in Venice Beach, which is found along the boardwalk west of the Blue Crab Grill. The door’s boarded up, but you can get in by breaking the front windows.
To do so without setting off the alarm, break the yellow panel above the door with a thrown weapon or gunshot.
Inside, you can find a key that fits the side room in the other Jo’s Rentals and an abandoned smartphone, which begins the “Jo’s Rainy Day Stash” side quest.
You can now go back east along the boardwalk to the other, larger Jo’s Rentals outlet and find a second phone on its counter. This adds a new journal entry, “Jo’s Beloved Baby,” which comes with a picture of a red pickup truck.
At this point, the quest becomes a scavenger hunt, requiring you to find the only red pickup truck left in Venice Beach. Fortunately, there aren’t too many places where it could be, and you may have spotted it before now.
Where to Find the Red Pickup Truck
Go to the parking lot to the southeast of the Blue Crab Grill, where Jo’s pickup truck is in the center of the lot with its hood open and visible acid damage to its front end.
This triggers a vicious fight, as multiple Walkers and Runners will appear along with a Crusher. One of those Walkers is Jo’s Shambling Body, which will drop his phone and keys when killed.
This fight can get really hectic, so it’s not unusual for Jo to go down in the crossfire before you see him. If you’re playing co-op, remember that quest items like keys and journals are automatically assigned to every player as soon as one player picks them up, so double-check your inventory if you don’t see Jo’s drops.
Jo’s phone provides you with this quest’s third and final journal entry, “Jo’s Final Farewell.” While it doesn’t exactly tell you where to go, it does put a treasure chest icon on your in-game map.
From the Blue Crab Grill, head east across the street to the alley behind Burger ‘66, to Marla’s Tapas and Tacos.
Marla’s is boarded up, but there’s a stack of pallets in the parking lot that you can use to get onto the next roof over. Just look for the conspicuous blood stain above the pallets.
From there, walk onto the ceiling of Marla’s seating area and use it to reach Marla’s rooftop. You’ll find a fenced-off area with the zombified versions of Jo’s two buddies on the other side of a chain-link fence.
Be careful not to set off their tripwire trap, as it’ll set the entire rooftop on fire. If you back off and throw something at the tripwire’s left anchor point, it’ll detonate the oil drums and water barrels at the same time. That puts out the burning oil as soon as it ignites, but not before the explosion kills both zombies.
You can now loot the big storage chest in the zombies’ enclosure for 2,000 XP, a Crowbar with the Primed weapon perk (which you won’t find anywhere else for a while), and a new Curveball, the Electric Bomb.
That’s how to find Jo’s Rainy Day Stash and complete this Lost & Found quest in Dead Island 2. For more tips and tricks, check out our dedicated DI2 guides hub.
