Things are looking up for the fans of the once troubled Bayonetta series. Not only is the long-awaited sequel coming out next year, but there is also an anime movie coming out entitled Bayonetta: Bloody Fate.
Anime studio Gonzo is doing the film. They are famous for doing Welcome to the N.H.K., Strike Witches, Afro Samurai, and a large variety of other works. Fuminori Kizaki will be directing and doing the storyboard; he has worked on Afro Samurai, Marvel Anime, and Wild Arms 3.
Judging from the trailer, it seems filled with the same over-the-top action and risqué imagery as the game. With no English translation of the trailer out yet, it’s hard to tell exactly what the film will be about.
I’m skeptical about this. I know that Gonzo has a pretty hit-or-miss record, especially with adaptations. If I were a Bayonetta fan, I would not get my hopes up too high, in case the film ends up sucking some serious lollipops.
Bayonetta: Bloody Fate starts showing in Japan on November 23rd. No English release date has been stated so far.
