Guys, I’ll be honest. I dislike my job. Strange hours, low pay and most importantly; it’s uninteresting to me (Banking, guys… banking). Today I saw an article online about Forbes Magazine compiling a list of the “Top 50 Best Small and Medium-Sized Companies to Work For,” and two different video game companies appeared.
Riot Games, the Creators of League of Legends, placed third on the Medium-Sized list. With 846 employees, this is the first time the company has appeared on the list. Riot Games released this statement about placing so high on the list:
“This was our first year applying for the list, so our expectations were blown away by the #3 ranking. Teams from across the company contributed to the application process, which included a survey about life at Riot that went out to randomly selected Rioters and an in-depth questionnaire about our culture and programs. This process gave us the opportunity to share Riot culture and stories, but also gave us a chance to take cultural inventory of where we’re at and where we still need to go.”
This comes after Business Insider named Riot Games as one of the 25 Best Tech Companies To Work For in 2013, placing fourth.
Insomniac Games meanwhile on the “Best Places to Work Small-Sized Companies” list, coming in as 15th. They have 183 employees and get unlimited paid days to attend expos and conferences.
The lists were compiled by asking select employees from each company if they liked their company’s culture, programs and management. Having employees say a company is great is the true sign of a great place to work (in my mind).
So long story short: if you want to work for gaming, Riot Games and Insomniac appear to be two of the best places to start. If you’re interested in learning more about either company’s placing, go to this blog post by Riot or to Insomniac Games’ career awards page.
Are there any other video game companies you’ve heard of that would be great to work for? Please share down below! I’m asking for a friend…
