How to Change Profile Name Color in Honkai Star Rail

An important distinction to make about changing profile name colors is that it was never an officially supported feature. In fact, it was only accomplished through a workaround involving HTML coding.

I initially thought this was intentional, perhaps as an easter egg or a reference to the limited HTML use in Honkai Impact 3rd, but it appears it was just an unknown exploit. While this was possible to do during the first couple weeks of the launch, I’ve found that the exploit has since been patched out.

If you’ve ever changed things through HTML on a webpage before, the steps would have felt familiar. All of the magic took place within the bio page of a player’s profile, where some simple programming could be used. Players could use the <a> HTML tag, which is typically used to denote a hyperlink, to change their profile name color to blue. Additional tags could also be used to add underlines or strikethroughs.

Far more code was available to be used with the bio itself. On top of the tags and changes above, it was also possible to use the six-character hex color code system to really make your bio message stand out. Bolding, italicizing, and even changing the positioning of the text was also possible.

Why Was Changing Profile Colors Patched Out?

There hasn’t been an official explanation for why this was patched out, but the fact that it was an unintentional exploit is likely reason enough. Although some fans wish that it would have stayed because it was an additional way to customize, others have pointed out that the exploit could be used to bypass profanity features. Some tags such as <quad would also mess up the menu or brick it entirely for some players.

Will the Option to Change Profile Name Colors Come Back?

It’s extremely unlikely that these codes themselves would come back unless they’re heavily limited in how they can be used. As mentioned earlier, Honkai Impact 3rd does allow some HTML tags to be used after all.

That being said, it would be easier for them to just implement proper color options without needing players to input specific HTML tags. It’s difficult to say whether HoYoverse sees the benefits of adding these sorts of options though. If it’s ever properly added, we’ll update this guide!

Hopefully that covers any questions you have about changing the profile name color in Honkai Star Rail. If you’ve also had other profile-related questions, such as how to redeem codes, our growing collection of Honkai Star Rail guides can help.
