The Talos Principle 2 has finally been announced. The 2014 original game is one of the greatest ever made, so it was inevitable that a sequel would happen (at least, we thought it was inevitable). While Croatian developer Croteam confirmed many years ago that it was working on a follow-up to its first-person puzzle game, we had no clue when it would ever materialize. I suppose a random Wednesday PlayStation Showcase stream was the best answer.
Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year, The Talos Principle 2 doesn’t have a firm release date just yet. However, we do know that it’s set to expand on the puzzle concepts found in the original game by introducing more realistic environments and the biggest world in a Croteam game yet.
While not open-world, The Talos Principle 2 will be big, and you’ll be able to tackle puzzles with brand-new mechanics and in a semi-non-linear fashion. What all that means remains to be seen, but if the trailer is anything to go by, fans of the original are in for a treat.
Taking place after the game’s main ending, you’ll control the same robot from the original as it attempts to rebuild humanity following some cataclysmic event. You’ll do this by solving mind-bending puzzles, interacting with new characters, and exploring the ruins of humanity’s greatest cities.
A PlayStation Blog post on the Talos Principle 2 goes into more (cryptic) detail, mentioning “gravity manipulation and minded transference,” as well as that “there are buried secrets and an entire forgotten history to unearth in the game’s vast, haunting world. You’ll also be directly involved in its complex, character-driven story, making decisions that can lead to multiple endings.”
