Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gameplay Trailer Hits Summer Game Fest With a Release Window

The path of Cloud's journey continues to diverge from the original with the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second part of the trilogy that will make up FF7 Remake. The gameplay trailer shown at Summer Game Fest shows that this section will be a massive addition to the critically acclaimed project that retells the story that helped define the RPG genre over 25 years ago. Oh, and we also got a release window. Rebirth will be coming sometime in 2024.

Square Enix received criticism for the directional changes made to the story in FF7 Remake, but this trailer shows that the developers are sticking with their vision going into FF7 Rebirth. The trailer shows off characters who’ll be joining the journey in the second section, like Yuffie and Elena, and it features exciting combat sections alongside exploration.

Cloud and his party are officially outside of Midgar, and the trailer pulls you into the expansive world of Gaia that you’ll explore while pursuing the iconic — and vengeful — villain, Sephiroth. You’ll uncover more mysteries and delve into the histories of characters, watching the bonds between them grow stronger as they battle against enemies to save their planet.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is designed to make full use of the PlayStation 5’s hardware and capabilities, and it will require two discs if you’re playing a physical copy rather than digital (a throwback to the mid-to-late 90s, for sure). I certainly can’t wait to jump back into this world, even if it continues to leave me with more questions than answers regarding what’s going on and how much Aerith and Sephiroth seem to know.

Luckily, the wait won’t be too much longer. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been given an early 2024 release for the PS5. Stay tuned for more. We’ll be here to cover the latest news leading up to release, as well as producing content after its official launch.
