Sea of Thieves is the gift that keeps on giving. After putting in a rather touching Monkey Island easter egg a few years back, Rare’s explosive pirate co-op game will be getting a fully-fledged expansion based on the classic LucasArts adventure series. Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, it appears this new journey to Melee Island will explore what has become of Guybrush following his adventures from the previous Monkey Island games.
At the moment, we don’t have much information as to what The Legend of Monkey Island will entail. The trailer shows off that Guybrush and LeChuck are involved and players can even visit the Scumm Bar, but that’s roughly all we know. Surprisingly, Sea of Thieves will be adapted to the point-and-click adventure style, so long-time fans can expect some of the same puzzles that made Monkey Island so endearing. Likely, this follow-up will also build upon the previous easter egg and build Monkey Island’s world into Sea of Thieves.
If you’ve never played Sea of Thieves and want to experience more Monkey Island, this expansion will be heading to the game for free this summer. That is one way to get more players excited about your title. Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
