Several months ago, it was rumored that the operating system used on the Xbox One was similar to Windows 8 and would thus be able to run Windows 8 apps. Of course, this was before the E3 press events and much of that kind of information was skeptical at best.
Well, that rumor may actually be true.
According to the official Xbox One listing on Dell’s website, the next-gen console will be able to run all of your favorite Windows 8 apps. The listing reads:
“Consider the game officially changed. With all your favorite Windows 8 apps able to be run on and synced to your Xbox One, now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience. “
There is no official word yet from Microsoft, but I highly doubt Dell would post such a listing without it having some sort of truth to it.
My Take:
This could potentially be a much-needed game-changer in the current console wars between Sony and Microsoft. Having a console be able to run Windows 8 apps adds a ton of value to the system and may encourage those who already use Windows 8 based machines, like tablets or phones, to pick up the Xbox One for their gaming. Being able to sync and access apps on your gaming console adds a new layer to the console experience.
If this rumor is true, would this be enough for you to purchase an Xbox One over the PlayStation 4?
