There were some fun reveals from Ubisoft Forward, including an update on the developer/publisher’s upcoming F2P first-person shooter XDefiant. Not only will you be able to try it out soon during an open beta next week, but the game’s post-release plans were also detailed in the form of a roadmap.
Although it’s not a concrete date just yet, we do know that XDefiant will release later this summer. It will launch with a six-week preseason consisting of all the launch content. This includes:
- Five factions (Dedsec being an unlockable one)
- Five game modes
- 14 maps
- 24 weapons with 44 attachments
My time playing a preview build of XDefiant featured the same content, and those who played the closed beta in April will likely be familiar with it as well.
Moving on from there are the plans for the first year. A steady supply of content seems to be the goal as players will have the following to look forward to four new factions, 12 new weapons, and 12 new maps. A news post on the XDefiant website goes into more detail, specifying that the Year 1 roadmap is being broken down into four different seasons. Each is headlined by:
- One new faction
- Three new weapons
- Three maps
- Their own 90-tier battle pass
It’s possible some seasonal content will be added periodically instead of at a set pace every three months. The detailed overview for the XDefiant Year 1 roadmap shows that we can expect three new maps for each season, but XDefiant Executive Producer Mark Rubin did seem to indicate that there would be one new map every month.
We’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out when XDefiant launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this summer. The associated Twitter account also revealed that work on the last-gen versions (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) is ongoing and will launch “as soon as they are ready.” We’ll keep you updated once we know the proper release dates for all versions.
