Wii U New Launch Titles

Remember back when Nintendo had to delay a few titles just so they get completed or what have you? Well, now here are some more titles except that this time, they're being announced!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Sometime last year, before the Wii U was launched, there was this picture that surfaced and everyone thought it was going to be a new Zelda game for sure. Well Nintendo just called it concept art and Skyward Sword came out (it should be obvious that the picture looks nothing like Skyward Sword). Everyone kinda forgot about it, well now there’s a new Zelda title being announced for the Wii U. We don’t know the name of it yet, but we do know that the release date is “sometime in 2014”.

That’s a bit far away for Nintendo to be able to recover from their major delays, and way to far if either Sony or Microsoft decide to launch their next gen console this year. Though it doesn’t look that grim for Nintendo, they’re announcing a few other titles as well. This sheer bulk might just get people to start buying enough of the console with sheer anticipation of their favorite titles. Among the titles to be released this year and next are:

  • Yoshi’s Epic Yarn title (like Kirby’s, but with Yoshi supposedly)
  • Mario Kart for the Wii U
  • Another addition to the Xenoblade series
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Another Smash Brothers (squeal!)
  • Mario action title
  • Wind Waker HD
  • Fire Emblem & Shin Megami Tensei cross over

Now this list alone gets me excited for the most part. I’ve heard of Xenoblade and have even seen videos on it, but I’ve never played it unfortunately. With Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate coming out in March I’m already planning on getting a Wii U, now with the new Zelda, Wind Waker remake and a fourth Smash Brothers (YES) I’m definetly getting a Wii U.

It’s uncertain if the Wii U will have a successful launch period, but it could make up for that next year. Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest titles, especially since the last Metroid game was a train wreck (someone else should have been put in charge of story/development). While these titles could help the Wii U meet success, it’s a bit of a long shot. It really depends now, on how well Nintendo’s competitors do with their launch periods. Nintendo isn’t out yet, and shouldn’t be counted out until the end. Yet it’s going to be an uphill battle Nintendo for this year, and probably the next.

I was born, stuff happened, then I got a bachelors and am writing for GameSkinny at the moment. All I really have time to play right now are flash games and League of Legends. Basically if it's a game odds are I'm going to like it, and if not I'll play for a while. Any game can be good or bad, it just depends on how you view the story, even if it isn't written. Sorry if you were expecting personal info, I don't really like giving that many details online unless I know you...
