To start the Fields of Ruin quest, you’ll need to talk to Phelan in the Blycroft area. The quest is immediately available when entering the area and requires no prerequisites. He’ll ask for your help; there have been attacks throughout the fields, and you’ll need to place protective wardstones to stop them.

After you pick up the quest, gather the wardstones directly next to Phelan’s house. A marker will appear on your main map and mini-map indicating their locations.

Once you have the wardstones, it’s time to place them. You’ll see search areas appear on your map, but the exact locations remain a mystery. I found the first wardstone location at the southwest corner of the west field. The remaining two are on the north and southeast corners of the east field.

Simply interact with the placement area to successfully place the wardstone. After all three wardstones are placed, you’ll need to draw out Blackhorn. It’s time to get ready for a fight.

Where to Find Blackhorn

You’ll see a new search area appear on your map, and Blackhorn will be found within it. To get Blackhorn to appear, you’ll need to slay the Blood Clan Khazra until you’ve filled the progress bar on the right side of your screen. Once it’s completed, Blackhorn will appear as a boss symbol on your map. Go to Blackhorn’s location and defeat him to collect his head for Phelan.

Blackhorn is Fire Enchanted and Explosive, so you can expect to take some fire damage from the fight. There’s a healing well in the area if you need to refill your potions for the fight. After you eliminate Blachorn, the head will drop as loot. Return to Phelan and deliver Blackhorn’s head to complete the quest. Your rewards are an item cache, gold, and XP tailored to your level, and +20 Scosglen renown.
