Aviv Or: How Many Pop Culture References Can You Spot in Geeky Road?

Presenting Darth Vader on sitar, Hermione Granger on drums, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Dread Pirate Roberts on LSD. What could go wrong?
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

When artist Aviv Or was asked by friends, Idan and Danielle, to illustrate a poster full of geek culture references, Aviv said, “their request was so detailed and rich with cool geek stuff that I had to take the job or the universe would have imploded around me.”

So Aviv took their concept and did a wonderful job creating Geeky Road, I think you’ll agree.

Clearly based on the Beatles 1969 Abbey Road album cover, but replacing George, Paul, Ringo and John with Darth, Buffy, Hermione and Wesley, the background is chock full of Western pop culture references.

Can you spot them all?

More About Aviv Or

For inquiring artistic minds, 27-year-old Israeli artist Aviv Or explains the process of creating Geeky Road in great detail on her blog, Speech Bubble.

There, she details the entire process of creating Geeky Road–from the initial request from her friends, through concept sketches and the artistic process, to it finally finding pride of place on Idan and Danielle’s ‘cool geeky London apartment.’

There are also many other great pieces in her portfolio, which clearly showcases she has a gift for caricature.

Here are a few examples…

Broken paramedic and coffee-drinking Englishman whose favourite dumb animal is an oxymoron. After over a decade of humping and dumping the fat and the dead, my lower spine did things normally reserved for Rubik's cubes, bringing my career as a medical clinician to an unexpectedly early end. Fortunately, my real passion is in writing and given that I'm now highly qualified in the art of sitting down, I have the time to pursue it. Having blogged about video games (well, mostly EVE Online) for years, I hope to channel my enjoyment of wordcraft and my hobby of gaming into one handy new career that doesn't involve other people's vomit.
