Microsoft announced via Xbox Wire that the console version of Minecraft will be receiving multiple mini games. The first is scheduled to arrive in June. The mini game will be called Battle, and it will have clear rulesets that will make competitions flow more smoothly. The goal is to make it so players do not have to deal with keeping score, manual count-downs, and prep loot chests.
“Battle allows you to set up a competitive multiplayer fight for survival, where speed, strategy- and sometimes just pure luck- will make you the winner.”
— Jaime Limon, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Minecraft
In Battle, players will face off in a Hunger Games-style death match until one victor remains. The matches will have resources around the arena that will be decided randomly. If you don’t end up being the victor, don’t worry, you can spectate the gameplay by flying around as a bat.
Battle and three new maps will come absolutely free in an update as long as you have a console.
