The wait is over — that delayed 4.5 patch is finally here for Fortnite fanatics to get their hands on extra firepower and try out some more limited time modes. As we dive into Week 9 of Season 4, a brand spanking new kind of weapon drop arrives, although it will seem just a bit familiar.
Rather than adding in dual wielding of the standard existing guns, now you can pick up dual pistols as a single weapon in Fortnite, which chews through ammo but increases your damage output considerably for those who like a light gun with little recoil.
Fortnite Dual Pistols Stats
The dual pistols appear as both epic and legendary variants and can be found as floor drops, supply drops, or in the standard gold chests. The epic version fires for 41 damage, while legendary goes up to 43 base damage.
While the recoil is low and the reload time isn’t too crazy, the spread is quite high and there’s no first shot accuracy bonus, so accuracy won’t be the strong suit unless you are firing off small numbers of rounds at an unaware enemy.
“Spray and pray” is more what they are going for here. These aren’t long range guns by any means, so don’t expect to be doing much sniping. Inside tight corridors in Tilted Towers or similar areas though, these can be a better weapon than something like the rocket launcher where you can damage yourself, or the shotgun where you have limited ammo capacity and high reload.
Both of the dual pistols fire simultaneously when you click and they draw from a single supply of medium ammo, so watch that ammo counter closely! This definitely isn’t the never-ending mini gun scenario that frustrated so many players a few updates back.

What’s On The Horizon For Fortnite after dual pistols?
Adding in those epic and legendary dual pistols was just the beginning of new content set to arrive soon. Playground mode bade a brief appearance, but was taken offline immediately due to problems.
Although they (mostly) weren’t implemented yet in the Fortnite 4.5 patch notes, very big changes are coming to the base gameplay in Battle Royale mode shortly — likely along with Season 5 just a handful of weeks from now.
Expect to see the resource cap lowered and for tweaks to be made to building strength and shotgun damage, as those are the two areas that the top players have most come to rely on during the end-game. Here’s what was said in a post straight from the developers:
It’s important to support a variety of late game strategies, that don’t boil down to “just build lol”. We strongly believe that the evolution of Fortnite supports a wide range of play styles and counterplay. Currently, the superiority of shotguns, rockets, and uncapped building are such a dominant play style in the final circle that most other strategies are being drowned out.
One of those changes is already here, as Shotgun damage to structures has been reduced by 50% for Pump Shotgun, and 25% for both Tactical Shotgun and Heavy Shotgun.
Epic wants to see games end with something other than a crazed wall-building fest until one person gets off a lucky shotgun blast or rocket launcher hit, as that’s how most #1 Victory Royale scenarios now arrive.
If you’ve been relying on that strategy, its time to start learning the other weapons now!
She doesn’t look too happy about the changes either!
