Once you’ve made it to Ocean Avenue in Dead Island 2, you’ve hit one of the Slayers’ major goals. Now you can sort out some of what’s really going on in Hell-A, but also, grab all the loot you can find. Here’s how to get all the lockbox keys found in Ocean Avenue and the Santa Monica Pier.
If you’re looking for the keys to other lockboxes, safes, and so on in Dead Island 2, we’ve written guides going into all lockbox key locations separated by map:
- Bel-Air & Halperin Hotel
- Beverly Hills & Monarch Studios
- Brentwood Sewers & Venice Beach
- The Metro & Hollywood Boulevard
Dead Island 2: Where to Get All Lockbox Keys in Ocean Avenue and the Pier
Ocean Avenue’s Lockboxes
Guest’s Keepsake Box
After you complete “The Final Gauntlet,” you’ll wake up in Room 01 at the Serling Hotel, where you’ll notice this locked vanity case on the counter nearby.
Later in the game, after you’ve cleared “The Search for Truth,” you can revisit the OSK retail outlet to find the Serling Hotel Guest in its back alley. Take its key to open the Keepsake Box, which contains the blueprint for the weapon perk Energized.
Serling Reception Safe
The lockbox behind the front desk at the Serling Hotel can be unlocked by a key held by the Hotel Concierge, who can spawn at night on the second floor of the Lotusville Mall. The safe contains the Superior Melee Mutilator weapon mod blueprint, which makes this the first Superior blueprint you’re likely to find.
Electrician’s Toolbox
This can be found in the closet in Tisha’s apartment in the Thalia Residences. To find the key, check out the big sinkhole on the northwest end of the map. A named Shocking Runner, the Faulty Electrician, can appear there day or night at any point after “Boardwalking Dead.” With its key, you can open the toolbox and claim the Superior Ranged Mutilator weapon mod blueprint.
Newsroom Hard Case
The side quest “Scooped!” becomes available if you get anywhere near the LA24 building during “The Search for Truth.” This lets you get into LA24, although you have to complete “Scooped!” before you can leave again.
The Newsroom Hard Case is in the second-floor boardroom. Its key is held by the Talk Show Guest, a Firestorm Slobber, which spawns at night on the first floor.
Randgate Secure Case
During “The Search for Truth,” you’ll find a hidden lab on the east side of Ocean Avenue with a lockbox in its security office. This isn’t available before that point.
Complete the Lost & Found quest “Missing: Greg” to gain access to the underground parking garage by the Randgate lab. On a second visit, you can find the Randgate Staffer, a Voltaic Screamer, by that garage’s utility room.
The Secure Case contains the blueprint for the Vengeful weapon perk.
Officer Wilson’s Luggage
Room 02 in the Serling Hotel is initially locked up, but after “The Search for Truth,” its door opens so you can collect a side quest from Harold.
For the purposes of this article, though, we’re only interested in the suitcase on the floor. The late Officer Wilson appears by day as a Riot Gear Walker in the Apex-infested park on the north end of Ocean Avenue. Unusually, this lockbox only contains ~$1,200.
The Pier’s Lockboxes
Lifeguard HQ Box
When you wake up on the beach after “Boardwalking Dead,” the Beach Hunk has already spawned. It’s an Inferno Crusher in the big crater on the east side of the beach, and its key opens the big orange storage tote that’s under the desk in the Lifeguard HQ zombie-free zone. It contains the blueprint for the Superior Melee Cremator weapon mod.
Suspicious Biohazard Container
This can be hard to find on a return trip, since your map makes it look like the Biohazard Container is inside the CDC site. Instead, it’s just outside the west exit, on the other side of an open shipping container. The Caustic-X Walker with the key, the CDC Viscera Cleaner, appears by day along the beach shoreline.
Famiglia’s Storage Box
Check the bathroom in Luigi’s Pizzeria for a suspicious briefcase. The Runner Luigi Jr. has the key, but he only appears by night, in the utility tunnel under the Pier.
It’s all downhill from here, or at least underground. Next time, we’ll cover the last two maps in Dead Island 2. If you’ve got any other questions about the game, check out our designated DI2 guide hub.
