In a rare move, The Pokemon Company International just bought ad time in Super Bowl 50 on CBS. As reported yesterday, Pokemon is celebrating their 20 year anniversary.
Advertising Age is reporting the commercial will motive fans to “Train On.” There is no word on what this super bowl ad will be about but we do know a part this campaign will include the hashtag #Pokemon20. There are no other details or what quarter this spot will air in.
Also, not revealed is the amount of money that was spent on this ad. According to Advertising Age, CBS has been selling Super Bowl 50 ads for an average of $5 million. The Super Bowl has seen some growth in video game ads with last year’s Game of War and Hero’s Charge mobile games.
Along with their 20th anniversary, Pokemon has new 3DS bundles coming out and their card game has a new expansion pack out. In addition, rare Pokemon are going to be given out each month for Pokemon X, Y, Alpha Sapphire, and Omega Ruby.
Is this a good strategy for Pokemon? Comment below!
