4 Indie Games To Look Forward To In 2014

As the indie gaming scene continues to bloom and grow, here are the 4 indie games I'm looking forward to most.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information
Transistor

Transistor is the next title from Supergiant Games, the talent behind the XBLA and Steam hit Bastion in 2011. The cyberpunk game revolves around Red, a talented singer who lost her voice after a mysterious attack that killed her best friend. Red wakes up next to a ridiculously cool looking sword called the Transistor which has the voice of her friend. Equipped with this new, deadly, blade, you set out to find the answers. The game has a top down viewpoint similar to that of Bastion. During fights, Red can attack enemies with the ever-increasing abilities of the Transistor. The catch is that Red can stop time using a mechanic called turn, where the player plans out her movement and attack for a short amount of time beforehand and watches as it plays out. Supergiant has already proven themselves, and with a compelling gameplay hook accompanied by great visuals and soundtrack, Transistor is sure to be another success.

Transistor will available for PS4 and PC on May 20, 2014.

SUPER T.I.M.E. FORCE

Super T.I.M.E. is a mix of insanity, death and revival, time paradoxes, and 2D side scrolling shooty blasty glory. Only Capybara, who brought us Sword and Sworcery and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes has the guts to pull this off. Super T.I.M.E. Force has been on many gamer's minds for a long time. The premise of the game is this: using various types of characters with different abilities, you have to get to the level no matter how many lives it costs. In this title, death is actually recommended. By dying, time is stopped, and the player can rewind to a certain point in the level and add another character, doubling the firepower. Players can even save their deceased comrades by killing their murderers, and getting the life back. This band of sociopathic, trigger-happy mercenaries travel throughout time, from the future to the prehistoric age, shooting anything and everything that gets in their way. Super T.I.M.E. Force harkens back to the good ol' days of Contra and Metal Slug, but with a twist. You want to die in this one.

Super T.I.M.E. Force will be available for XBLA and Xbox One 0n May 14, 2014.

Hotline Miami 2

Hotline Miami is my favorite indie game of all time, so I'm definitely excited for its sequel, Wrong Number. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number carries on the formula of the original. Answer your phone, go to the address, and kill everyone in the building by any means necessary. Hit them once, they die. Get hit once, you die. This may seem trivial, but thanks to the uber-precise movement and aim, animal masks with special abilities, awesome visuals and soundtrack, and completely brutal difficulty... Hotline Miami is an extremely addictive and endlessly fun game. The sequel adds 4 new characters all with their own defining ability, ranging from one-hit kill punches to dual wield smgs. Hotline Miami 2 carries on the quirks from the first and has the possibility to eclipse the greatness of its predecessor.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be available for PS4, PS Vita, and PC in Q3 2014.

Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is the Kickstarter funded action RPG from the Heart Machine. You play as a drifter, a specially armed character searching the world for a cure to his illness. You don't have much of an arsenal at first, but you will find better equipment as you progress through the game. The game's art and soundtrack are absolutely beautiful. The developers have stated that they are trying to embody the feel of the original top-down Legend of Zelda games, an easy reason to get excited. We don't know much, but what has been shown should definitely place this game on anyone's watch list.

Hyper Light Drifter will be available for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Ouya, Xbox One, and Wii U in Q4 2014/Q1 2015.
