Dark Souls is one of my favorite games of all time. It had everything I wanted in a challenging video game and left me wanting more. Now we have Dark Souls 2 coming up and while the excitement for this game is big, not everyone is on board. So I made a quick list on 4 reasons why you should be very excited for Dark Souls 2.
1. A story that’s not told to you but one you have to find
Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls both had very interesting and very deep stories however not all the details were given to you. If you wanted to know more about who your character was and what was going on in the world you had to go out and find the details, talk to the characters more to learn their stories, read wikis and forums to learn more about the lore, and even with all this you still have to come up with your own interpretations for the stories greatest mysteries. This gives more gratification to the player and makes the game feel more like an adventure that’s tailored you.
2. Amazing art and enemy design
Dark Souls has a very creative art design mixing classic medieval fantasy with a dark gothic overtone. The dungeons are created with great care and the dark grim design makes sure the player never feels safe. The enemies and bosses have some of the most creative design ever seen in a game. They look intimidating and scary, and the scale of the fights are incredible. One minute you’re fighting a monster made out of human bones, the next you’re fighting a giant dragon, you never know what to expect. From what we’ve seen of Dark Souls 2 the design looks to be better than ever.
3. Punishing yet satisfying gameplay
Dark Souls is known to be one of the hardest video games ever. Death is inevitable, and every time you die there are consequences. However the game isn’t cheap and never cheats the player, but it teaches the player to get better at the game. Dying can help you learn enemy strategies and how to better prepare yourself for the next battle. The sense of accomplishment in the game can be overjoying, once you finally slay that boss you spent hours trying to beat it can feel like you just climbed Mnt Everest. This risk-reward gameplay is engaging and once you finally get what the game is going for you’ll be hooked, creating a nightmare you won’t want to wake up from.
4. A different and dangerous multiplayer
Dark Souls had multiplayer that could be both a good way to help other players, or completely ruin their day. When you were connected to the internet in Dark Souls you could interact with other players by writing messages on the ground that others can come across. Messages that are helpful like “enemy ahead.” Messages can also be used to trick players by leading them into traps or telling them false information that could affect their progress. Players can interact with each other directly either by summoning one another to beat challenging bosses, or players can invade each others games to kill them and take their rewards. The multiplayer in Dark Souls can be very helpful, or very dangerous and risky, and Dark Souls 2 looks to be no different.
If you’re looking for a game that will challenge your skills, bring you to a dark interesting world, and give you the greatest sense of adventure look no further than Dark Souls 2. The game will ask not are you prepared to die, but are you prepared to play?
