What are the 10 Best Minecraft Horse Mods in 2024?

10. Callable Horses

When your adventures take you farther than you expect, the Callable Horses mod can help. This lets you tag a specific one you’ve tamed. From then on, you can instantly teleport it nearby or direct it to walk to you if it’s not too far away. One of the most useful options, in my opinion, is being able to teleport it across dimensions, as well.

9. Horse Expert

The hidden stats for a Minecraft horse revealed with the Horse Expert mod.

Every horse in Minecraft has a different set of values for three hidden stats: Speed, Jump Height, and HP. The Horse Expert adds a way to see these values in-game for any that you’ve tamed. The only catch is that you’ll need to craft and equip a Monocle item first to see these stats. There are other mods that do the same thing, although I think the necessity of the Monocle makes it feel more like an officially implemented feature.

8. Craftable Horse Armour & Saddle

If you want less RNG and more manual work to protect your hooved-friends, check out Craftable Horse Armour & Saddle. While the base game only allows you to make Leather Armor with the others available solely as random loot, this mod adds recipes to craft Iron, Gold, and Diamond Horse Armor, too.

7. AstikorCarts Redux

Horses and other mobs you can ride are given more functions with AstikorCarts Redux. A multiple of different carts can be attached to your galloping rides in this mod. Whether you need to carry more inventory with you, transport some animals/NPCs, or a Plow to quickly till fields, you’ll be able to make more use of tamed equine mobs.

6. Wings Horns & Hooves, the Ultimate Unicorn Mod

Take a turn to the magical side with Wings Horns & Hooves, the Ultimate Unicorn Mod. Enjoy having a steed with flight by taming a Pegasus or one with fiery Hooves by taming a Nightmare. Each has attacks, as well, so you might want to be easy around the horn of the titular Unicorn. A plethora of magical items and changes to Horse breeding ensures you can take these animals to new mythical heights.

5. Realistic Horse Genetics

If magical isn’t quite your style and you prefer realism in Minecraft, consider Realistic Horse Genetics. It adds numerous different real horse breeds, as well as a breeding system. A range of different sizes is also added, which you can, of course, breed for in mind. This is a great choice for big enthusiasts of the animal or those who just want a more lifelike representation.

4. Ender Chested

A Minecraft player with an Elder Chest equipped to their horse.

Your steed can help with inventory now with the Ender Chested mod. This allows you to attach an Ender Chest directly to your Horses instead of using a Mule or Donkey. Aside from the general convenience of using a typically faster mob, I can attest that accessing a universal inventory whenever you want certainly has its advantages, as well.

3. Kaffee’s Dual Ride

Take a ride with your friends using Kaffee’s Dual Ride mod. Similar to getting in a boat with someone else, this makes it possible for two players to use one horse. It’s one of the simplest mods on here, but certainly one of the most helpful for situations where only one person has a horse.

2. Netherite Horse Armor Reforged

A Minecraft Horse with modded Netherite Horse Armor.

For those who want to provide the best protection and what feels like it’s missing from the base Minecraft game, you’ll want the Netherite Horse Armor Reforged. This does exactly what the name implies and adds a new armor for your horse based on Netherite. It can be found within Bastion Treasure Chests or crafted with a Diamond Horse Armor and a Netherite Ingot.

1. Horse Combat Controls

Many would agree that attacking enemies while riding a horse in Minecraft isn’t the most functional experience. This is the basis for the Horse Combat Controls mod, which employs Mount & Blade style controls. You’re provided with different movement options for acceleration and steering, as well as a separate combat mode. You can switch to this while your horse is moving to enjoy a full 360-range. It’s not the perfect solution for everyone, but I definitely enjoy it more than the base game’s implementation.
