Brian Blessed, king-sized star of such films as Flash Gordon, Star Wars: Episode 1 and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, is part of a Kickstarter campaign to develop some subversive children’s stories – set to classical music – into comic books and multimedia productions, as a way of introducing kids to this awesome soundworld.
Brian lends his inimitable voice to the role of The Great Sultan Shakriar in a tale from the 1001 Arabian Nights, alongside comedian and impressionist Rory Bremner, who plays Sinbad the Sailor, and an unfortunate Prince who keeps getting transformed into a baboon, and then falls out with Brian Blessed – not an enviable position to be in…
The project was created by Matt Parry, a London-based musician and music teacher, who is aiming to develop a series of musical eBooks, apps, live shows and kids workshops via this Kickstarter campaign after the project fell through with EMI last year due to their takeover by Universal Music. The illustrations will be by Faye Simms, whose “Practical Princess Guide” has recently been published by Templar.
