EA Sports needs a FIFA Women’s World Cup Game

EA Sports is missing a good opportunity to make another FIFA World Cup game. For years now, they’ve made countless of soccer titles, bringing us fun entertainment with their as realistic as possible soccer playing. But it’s time for a change, and the change comes by making one simple adjustment. I want a FIFA Women’s World Cup game.

FIFA will be including women in FIFA 16, which is great. I’m happy that they are taking this step, but I still want a World Cup game that only includes women. 

Why Women’s World Cup?

There are so many games out there, where men dominate the sporting world, and this goes deep into video games as well. Madden, NBA 2K, NHL, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour is just a few of them, where men are (for the most part) the only optional playable character. You can find playable female characters in games like Top Spin, but its central focus is still on the male characters. This is a chance to break out of the norm, and establish a new era of sports video gaming.

I understand that men’s soccer is a lot more popular than women’s soccer, but I enjoy watching the women more. They don’t see them flop and fall to the ground nearly as much as you see the men do so theatrically. This obviously doesn’t mean anything in a video game, so the game will have to stand on its own two feet.

Is There an Audience for this?

If you watched the most recent Women’s FIFA World Cup held in Canada, you can clearly see a huge following and plenty of support. I don’t think EA Sports will have a difficult time getting sponsors and support for this game. Although, I think a price reduction may be necessary. Sadly, this may still be too novel a experience, and many people might need a lower price point to give it a try. The standard $60.00 for a game like this is too high, but if the price lowered to about $30.00 or $40.00, it might get more people interested. 

Will it happen?

I don’t know if a game like this is ever going to happen, but it makes me want to write Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA Sports and ask him to consider making this idea a reality. I think FIFA World Cup: Canada sounds awesome, and it’s a game that I hope happens. The big question is whether or not it will receive enough support, and if there is even enough of a market out there for a game like this. You won’t know until you try though, and FIFA 16 will give us a good starting indicator as to the success rate of a women’s only soccer game.
