Fallout 4 Detail Proves Sole Survivor Spouse Isn’t a Synth

Fallout 4's Sole Survivor is the subject of many theories but one may debunk the game's big mystery.

The Fallout franchise is rife with theories that are only made more interesting when factoring in how strange a world like Fallout already is. That said, for every weird theory, there’s always one that can easily refute it while also building up even more questions, like proof that the Sole Survivor’s spouse in Fallout 4 isn’t a synth.

Fallout 4 is a sprawling world that’s just as engaging as any other part of the world in Fallout’s many other games. However, Fallout 4 also has a mystery that starts as early as the prologue when you enter the vault and are put into cryostasis. As you briefly awaken, you see your spouse killed and your child taken from her, putting you on a path to find your son. However, it was believed through various clues that you, the Soul Survivor, and your spouse may actually be synths.

As the theory gained more attention, it led to more theories like Dogmeat also being a synth. All in all, there were a great many ideas that were explored tied to how the Sole Survivor or their spouse is a synth. That said, Reddit user Pippy-Longstalker may have just debunked years of theories thanks to a pivotal moment at the beginning of the game.

Key Details Prove the Spouse Isn’t a Synth

When a synth is killed in Fallout 4, there are usually components that are left behind for you to pick up. Like every other resource in Fallout 4, these components can be used for selling and crafting. However, as shown, the Sole Survivor’s spouse doesn’t have any components. Therefore, they prove that they are 100% human. Even still, there are many other questions that are raised that start a whole new line of thought while also adding to the previously established theory.

One big thing to notice is how the spouse has 200 rounds of ammunition. But why would they if they were frozen as long as you? It’s a weird addition, all things considered, but it could be that it was planted by the attackers. But in the speculation, there’s another theory presented by another user in which they explain that if the Sole Survivor were a synth, as their spouse is believed to be as well, their son, Shaun, would’ve hit you with a recall code after you entered the Institute.

In the end, while a fun theory, those who are deeply knowledgeable of Fallout 4’s lore know that there are no synths between Shaun’s parents. However, when looking at it on the surface, it’s fun to speculate, and while this example further disproves the theory, it’s always fun to see what other ideas could grow from another cryptic piece of evidence such as this.
