Many GameStop stores across the US just recently received 3DS XL systems to put on display, allowing gamers to try the device out before deciding if they’re going to pre-order it. With only one week until the release of the new 3DS XL, here are some new specs that I found to be intriguing about the system and Majora’s Mask.
Face-Tracking 3D
The new 3DS features face-tracking 3D, which uses the inner camera. By using the inner camera, an improved 3D gaming experience will be provided from a wider range of viewing angles, compared to what the previous Nintendo 3DS had to offer. From personal experience, I can say that the face-tracking 3D is pretty great, although any smudges that are on the screen will distort the 3D effects. Just like the previous 3DS, playing with the 3D turned on for a while can easily mess with your vision.
New Controls
The added c-stick and the ZL and ZR buttons give players more options than ever. The c-stick is used solely to receive better camera angles while playing the game, but players are only required to put a small amount of pressure on the c-stick to get it to activate. The c-stick is a smaller control stick, and it barely moves at all, but the durability of the c-stick is unknown at this time. It’s a nice feature to add, but due to the design, it seems that it can easily wear out over time if too much pressure is applied.
Built-In Amiibo Support
The new 3DS XL is offering built-in Amiibo support, which is great for those who have a large collection on their Wii-U and would like to use them on their 3DS. This will only work for Amiibo-compatible games, which include Super Smash Bros, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. By using Amiibo character, players will gain access to bonus items and content.
Majora’s Mask
Majora’s Mask was the only game available to demo, allowing players to experience 3 different levels of the game. The controls were easy to use, and the 3D graphics looked outstanding. The graphics were higher-quality than the previous 3DS, and the game ran very smooth. The added c-stick was very helpful in viewing different angles, and it made the game easier to play. Unfortunately, the demo was very short, but it gave gamers a quick glimpse at what they can expect from Majora’s Mask, and it definitely seems worth the price.
