Grave Seasons Proves Demand for Cozy Horror Is High

Just in time for Summerween, we have a creepy yet cozy farming sim to look forward to.

Summer Game Fest 2024 came with a slew of announcements for upcoming titles, including a lineup from Blumhouse set to arrive on the scene. The iconic horror studio has partnered with Perfect Garbage for Grave Seasons, a mash-up project equal parts cozy and spooky. Best described as a murder-mystery farming sim, you’ll tend to your farm, date, and gather the know-how you need to put an end to a killing spree that’s bloodied the community. With few games to fill the niche thus far, the developing whodunnit has the potential to become a spooky season staple.

Just in time for the so-called Summerween trend, Grave Seasons has clawed its way to the top of countless cozy gamers’ wishlists. Having grown up spending family game nights shouting accusations over heated rounds of Clue, I’m dying to get my hands on the new title. If you’re like me and prefer your horror games story-driven, without needless jump scares or convoluted mechanics, Grave Seasons might be the game you’ve been waiting for.

The spooky farming sim takes place in Ashenridge, an idyllic, pixelated mountain town with a dark secret. Perfect Garbage is remaining pretty tight-lipped when it comes to the gory details for now. However, you can count on a few genre traditions with a killer twist. Of course, you can customize your farmer, work on your farmstead, hack away in the mines, fish, and mingle with the local singles, but Grave Seasons also promises a dynamic narrative featuring one randomized townie-turned-serial-killer per playthrough — and it could be your date.

Grave Seasons Release Date Details Remain Under Wraps

So far, we’ve received Grave Seasons‘ bare bones and not much else. While Perfect Garbage continues to highlight fan-made artwork and answer burning questions via X (formerly Twitter), the developer hasn’t announced a release date or window for Grave Seasons just yet. For now, the game remains in development, and hopeful players can follow the process on Discord or sign up for email updates.

As we await more news, fans of the cute-meets-creepy subgenre might also look forward to ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley successor, Haunted Chocolatier.
