Hearthstone Could Change Mobile Gaming As We Know It

Blizzard could be on the verge of changing everything with Hearthstone on Android and iPhone
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has been out for awhile now on both PC and iPad and has shown no sign of slowing down. At last year’s Blizzcon, Blizzard anounced that it was bringing Hearthstone to iPhone and Android. If you look at it simply as this, it’s just news. However, there is something much bigger going on, something that could change everything about mobile gaming. This brings me to three main points.

#1 We all play together

The game is connected to every user regardless of platform. This means whether you are playing on Mac, PC, or iPad, you will be connected with anyone who is playing regardless of your hardware. For example, if you are at your friends house, you can challenge them to a friendly match of Hearthstone and they could play on their computer and all you would need on you is your smartphone.

#2 At home or on the go

This will be the first popular game that you can play on your computer and continue to play when you are out. This isn’t just unlocking add-on items, or side quests. This will be the full game from climbing the ranked ladder, to crafting new cards. On top of that, you won’t be locked to a mobile only server, you will be playing with everyone you would have at home. Bringing with you all your progress, gold, and cards.

#3 It’s time to d-d-d-d-d-duel!

With how common smartphones have become and this being a free to play game, it means almost anyone you run into could be playing. Being on a bus, waiting for an appointment, or enjoying a line at your favorite convention, you will have all your cards on hand. This means you could challenge anyone around you at a moments notice.

These are three things that no other developer or game has been able to pull off. Hearthstone could be on the right track to being the biggest game to hit smartphones. With a release of both the iPhone and Android version of the game being planned for the 2nd half of this year, it shouldn’t be much longer till we hear more news.
