We usually start off by saying what a crazy week it’s been in the gaming world – but this time, we’d like to say that it’s been a crazy few weeks in the entire world. Our thoughts go out to Boston, Texas, China, and Bangladesh.
After a short hiatus, we’re ready to resume our weekly #TheSkinny recap, so let’s dive right in…
Video Game Reviews – Flawed System?
An article from Ashley Shankle questioned the value of game review scores and sparked debate amongst our readers. So, we’ve been asking for #TheSkinny all week: are traditional video game reviews a flawed system?
Reactions are mixed, but the general consensus agrees, traditional 1-10 ranking isn’t as straightforward as it seems. As GamerDad76 states, “we’re at a point where if a review site doesn’t have a huge 10/10 plastered, people will not even consider it.” GameSkinny reader Greg Magee also brings up the point that reading multiple reviews will help you get a better grasp of the game:
@gameskinny I think people get lazy and rely on maybe one source. Check out a lot of reviews from diff ppl to get a good idea.

The Xbox Announcement Is… Announced
Microsoft just announced its next-generation Xbox will be revealed on May 21st at 10 AM PDT. Like we did for PlayStation 4, GameSkinny will be reporting live with play-by-plays of the Xbox event. The new Xbox – rumored to be called Xbox 720 or Xbox Infinity – is expected to be a hub for all things media and entertainment, but what will it take to beat out PS4? What will the truly unique and new next-generation features be? Tell us your thoughts!
Bidding Farewell to Ambient Studios
We’re sad to hear Ambient Studios, the indie developer behind the much-anticipated Kickstarter title Death Inc., is shutting its doors due to lack of funds. The GameSkinny team had the pleasure of chatting with Ambient Studios a few months back – you can check out Part 1 and Part 2 of the interview.
Best of luck to the group of very talented developers – we know this won’t be the last time we hear of them!
The Twitterverse was saddened by the news:
Shame about Ambient Studios. 🙁
