We know that both Miquella and Messmer play a role in Elden Ring’s DLC. Messmer stars as the main villain in the Land of Shadows, but Miquella’s role is more vague so far. But part of his role could tie in with how Messmer and Miquella might be related in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s Trailer Hints at How Messmer and Miquella Might be Related
Miquella returns from the base game, and he actually leads us to the Land of Shadows for the DLC. However, not as much information about Messmer is known yet. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t make a few speculations, especially since it looks like Messmer could be another sibling of Miquella.
Messmer Could be Marika’s Child
Aside from his name starting with “M,” Messmer’s appearance shares a ton of similarities with Radagon. And with demigod characters like Malenia, Rykard, and Ranni (before she possessed a doll). The snakes around him could also connect him to Rykard. It’s not far-fetched for him to be Marika’s child, either. We know from the official site that the Land of Shadows is where she first set foot.
Messmer Could Be Half of Miquella
Alternatively, Messmer could be the other half of Miquella, the way that Radagon and Marika are parts of each other. The main evidence that points to this, rather than Messmer simply being another child, is what we know of his ability from the trailer. He has the power to wield love. And he uses it to lure those who are unclean to him so he can absolve them of their sins, which is what the trailer implies. That power to make others love him is almost identical to Miquella’s power. Which makes their connection seem much more like two pieces of a whole.
The exact details of how Messmer and Miquella might be related in Elden RIng: Shadow of the Erdtree can’t be confirmed with what little information we know. But that doesn’t mean that speculating using the clues we have is any less fun.
