Review of Bioshock: Infinite (2 hours in)

A quick look at Bioshock Infinite.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Bioshock: Infinite sure does bring a lot to the table. From what I can tell so far the game doesn’t seem to relate to the previous two Bioshocks, but not being too far into the game at all this could very well change.

Let’s talk graphics to start. The Bioshock series has always had these unique graphics where it seems they are purposefully not going for the most realistic graphics possible, yet they are not bad by any stretch of the imagination. There are bold, defined shapes and crisp, vibrant colors which help define the Bioshock series and enable the user to experience insane environments.

Speaking of which, let’s jump into the environment. One word: excellent. The first two Bioshocks were equally as amazing, running around an underwater city, filled with mystery and psychopaths… sweet. In Infinite we’ve gone from under the sea to above the clouds. The mystery and psychos are still there, but the environment itself took quite the turn. Buildings are held in the air by propellers and constantly move allowing you to access different areas, just walking around gives you a real trippy feel as where you are walking is never clearly defined.

Now lets talk storyline briefly. As I mentioned at the start, this seems to be a completely different story–however Infinite starts just like the other Bioshocks by the player not really knowing wtf is going on. As you progress, more secrets are uncovered and you learn more about the characters back story, which to me is another unique feature of the Bioshock series.

But speaking of uniqueness lets talk gameplay. We all know Bioshock killed it with combining the classic style of play FPS and threw in the use of plasmas, the combination of the two allows for many styles of play, and well… simply just makes the game fun as hell to play. But what’s the best part of the Bioshock series? Is it the graphics, the storyline, the gameplay? No, it’s the theme the Bioshock series has. This element of psychotic meets awesome. No other game is this fun yet so twisted and can still challenge players at any difficulty level and wow us with their world environment and storyline, and Infinite does not disappoint. After 2 hours of playing summary: game’s killi’n it.
