It’s Been Fun Bastion, Mostly

It's time to turn over a new leaf and move on from Bastion... Animal Crossing: New Leaf, that is.

Where do I start?

The Bastion phase was much better than Beta, I’d say. Honestly, I really lucked out with the people on my team. They get their shite done, and really well. I’m sad that I didn’t connect as much as I should have through Skype, but sometimes you can’t spend as much time behind a computer as you’d like.

What I’ve discovered in my writing for GameSkinny is that it is legitimate. What I mean is this: it has aided me in creating a relevant portfolio of writing samples as well as pushed me to wiggle my way through social media, both of which have helped me land a job. The internship experience is so valuable, even unpaid.

This is one of the coolest opportunities…

This is my second round of the internship, and I’m super excited to take the reins of team leader for the Orzhov phase (though I still need to figure out a smashing team name). If you take a step back, there aren’t many websites like GameSkinny where you can write on what you love with your own opinion, win great swag/money, and be guided when you’re encountering issues (shout out to Katy!). If you’re writing here, definitely realize what the experience means.

Connecting with game devs, gradually–very gradually–accumulating followers on Twitter, and spreading the word on overshadowed games has been awesome. Though a sneakpeak at a indie game may not garner as many page views as a big budget title, it’s worth it to me, and I know the developers really appreciate it. I know it’s kinda cheesy, but I don’t care! I’m lovin’ on the indies.

In the upcoming week, I think I’m going to spend some much-needed time with video games. Like I said, I now have a job; games have been put on hold slightly, aside from the BF playing in the background. I suggest you spend some R&R with a good game as well, even if that’s all you’ve been doing–do more!

I intend to bring the wrath in the next phase. Well…friendly wrath; I’m not that vicious. I am, however, looking to lead a team to glory in game journalism. Find out more about the Orzhov phase and join. If you dare.

Fin, until July 8th.
