Hey there,
This is my character Fading Shadow. I entered the Gameskinny Guild Wars 2 fashion contest and made it to the Top 10 Most Diabolic outfits. During the contest I’ve gotten comments from people who really liked my outfit, so I decided to make a little tutorial on how to get all the pieces of my outfit and tell you why I wanted to use them.
Here is a little overview of all the items that I’m using.
Armor
(Head) – Fanged Dread Mask ( Mesmer starting mask )
I use the Fanged Mask because it adds some uniqueness to the outfit and it also gives my necromancer a very angry look. Before I got the fanged mask i used the headpiece from the citadel of flames dungeon. I would get a lot of comments saying that people liked my outfit but that the helm ruined it because “everyone uses the cof helm”. The mask can be obtained by using a glitch in the game, I’ll explain it at the end of the post.
(Shoulder) – Corrupted Orrian Mantle
This is the light shoulder piece that can be bought at the arah dungeon token vendor in Lion’s Arch. The shoulder piece costs 210 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the arah dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. I use this shoulder piece because the eyes on this piece give your character a scary look and it makes your character seem a bit bigger wich is quite useful when trying to look like a mean Asura.
(Chest) – Corrupted Orrian Vestsments
This is the light chest piece that can be bought at the arah dungeon token vendor in Lion’s Arch. The chest piece costs 330 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the arah dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. This is the last piece that i got to complete my outfit, i was looking around for a good chest piece for a while. There are plenty of scary looking items in the game but most are very common and i wanted something that wasnt to easy to get so it be original yet still look scary.
(Gloves) – Hellfire Vambraces
This is a glove skin that can be obtained trough the achievement chest. You get your first chance to get this at 3000 achievement points. You can choose between the radiant glove skin or the hellfire glove skin. If you chose the radiant glove skin at 3000ap you can get the hellfire at 12000ap. Before i used this skin i was using the gloves from the citadel of flames, something about the burning gloves i really like, it adds a bit of demonic taste to the outfit.
(Legs) – Nightmare Pants
This is the light leg piece that can be bought at the twilight arbor dungeon token vendor in Lion’s Arch. The leg piece costs 300 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the twilight arbor dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. I like this piece because it’s a very long piece, just as the shoulder piece it makes your character look a bit bigger. The plant like look of the piece give this piece the scary look when it’s dyed dark but I’ve seen other people use it with white and then it looks very different.
(Shoes) – Flame Legion Shoes
These are the light shoes that can be bought at the citadel of flames dungeon token vendor in Lion’s Arch. The shoes cost 180 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the citadel of flames dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens each day. Personally I don’t think the shoes matter that much for this outfit since the Nightmare Pants cover most of your feet.
(Backpiece) – Sclerite Karka Shell
The Sclerite Karka Shell is a back piece that was obtainable during the Secret of Southsun living story patch. I use this because I think that this is the scariest back piece in the game at the moment.
Here are some pictures to show off the outfit in-game:
Most of the armor pieces are obtained by playing certain dungeons in the game and need lvl 80 to equip them. ( Unless you transmutate the skin but in my opinion it’s better to just level your character to level 80 instead of wasting transmutation crystals )
Weapons
The weapons that I’m using are more a way of adding some scary stuff to my necromancer. During the Halloween events last year a lot of scary weapons have been released and one of them is the staff “The Crossing”. This is the staff that im currently using but ive been thinking about maybe getting the scythe staff skin to switch things up a bit.
My other weapon set is the scepter “Zhaitan’s Reach” with a normal dagger with the sclerite dagger skin. All the weapons can be bought on the trading post but they can be a bit expensive.
Prices at the moment: (27/08/2013)
- The Crossing – 156G
- Zhaitan’s Reach – 2G 60S
- Sclerite Dagger Skin – 116G
Mesmer Starting Mask Tutorial:
Now I will explain the way i got my mask, I’m not sure if this has been patched or not since I don’t have any character slots to test it out anymore but I will explain the way to get it.
Things needed:
- New Character
- Transmutation Stone
- Low level white item of the same type or a weapon/armor merchant
Steps
- Make a new character with the starter piece that you want ( works for the Mesmer mask but also for every other piece )
- Complete the starting quest, I recommend making a Sylvari or Asura since their starting stories are quite short.
- Go to a bank and grab a transmutation stone. If you don’t have one you can get them in the gem store or from rewards by doing the story quest.
- *If you have a white item of the same type you can skip the next step but I recommend doing it anyway
- Go to a weapon/armor merchant and buy an item of the same type.
- When you have your item, use the transmutation stone and transfer the skin from the starter item to the white item.
The item should say its soulbound but when you complete the transmutation it should say it’s accountbound. After that you can swap it to wich ever character you want it on and delete the character if you want. ( I would do this since you can easily restart with another starter item later on if you want to make a character of the same profession).
Well I hope you found this useful and it helps you get the diabolic look that you have looked for.
