Welcome to another installment of Recappers, the week that was in gaming. It was Ground-type Pokémon day this week, so that means the Diglett saw its shadow, indicating 6 more weeks of Winter.
Whoops, I was just informed that it was Groundhog day, not ground-type. But still, 6 weeks of Winter. Anyway, let’s get on with the show; there’s plenty to talk about.
This week saw the final rewards added to the Club Nintendo shop, getting everyone excited. However, since everyone was excited to buy the rewards, the Club Nintendo web site was experiencing technical issues. That just means that Nintendo, yet again, didn’t compensate for the amount of people that would be using the site to keep it from crashing. Sounds like Club Nintendo and the Amiibo division are being run by the same people, but I digress.
The rewards are pretty cool and I was able to snag the Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask messenger bag. That bag will look great on me and I won’t have to lug my backpack around E3 this year! Nintendo also had a classic NES Super Mario t-shirt, as well as the Fierce Deity Link puzzle from Majora’s Mask. Nintendo also put a lot of the Virtual Console games on at discounted prices, so everyone can blow through their coins, since Club Nintendo is ending this year. I would love to see more soundtracks on the “new” Club Nintendo, or whatever Nintendo will be calling their new rewards program. I could also see Amiibo or custom Amiibo like the Wii Fighter actually look like you, stuff like that.
It was also revealed this week that Nintendo and Netflix are in collaboration to work on a Legend of Zelda live-action series. The show is still in the infancy stage, seeing as though writers are still needed for the show and Nintendo could kill this at anytime, like the Super Mario/Sony movie. The show could turn out very good or, like in the past of Nintendo TV/movies, could turn out very bad! It would be interesting to see what could be done for a Zelda series, if it’s done right and by right, I mean having people that know the Zelda series on the project.
The live-action series could ruin some things that the Zelda series is known for, like Link not talking. If Link talks and doesn’t have the right voice, it could be devastating to the series, both video game and TV. It would also ruin the image that Link is a silent hero and doesn’t need words to get his point across. It would be interesting to see what Hyrule the writers put the series in, if the series actually gets made. Would it be the Ocarina of Time Hyrule or would it be a totally new Hyrule that Link needs to save, only time will tell.
That’s gonna do it for another episode of Recappers, the week that was for my type of games. Some final thoughts, My Rosalina and Luma Amiibo finally showed up from Target this week. I’m sorry to see Club Nintendo go but I’m looking forward to the new rewards program but would like physical rewards!
Check out previous installments of Recappers and see how busy the last month has been in games!
