Riot Games has experienced exceptional levels of growth over the past few years after being releasing their hugely popular MOBA game League of Legends. Riot has also been highly praised for their business culture, referred by many as “the Google of games” for their extremely efficient, productive work environment. It should come as no surprise that the company is supporting an interesting new business technique with their employment operations.
The company recently announced that they’ve developed a new program called Queue Dodge that will pay employees 10% of their salary, with a $25,000 cap, if they quit within the first 60 days of employment. This is an extremely encouraging sign for a League of Legends fan. This simple gesture simply reinforces the fact that Riot wants to create quality content over everything else. As a previous World of Warcraft addict, it was sad to see the slippery slope the company took with developing the game. In what started as an absolutely brilliant game, it was abundantly clear that the company wanted to drain every last dollar out of it as fast as possible, rather than simply push out the best content they could.
Riot got the idea from online retailer Zappos, who only offers the program for the first four weeks of employment. Riot Games clearly have created a winner in League of Legends, but they are in it for the long term. The company was founded by gamers with entrepreneurial skills, and it is clear from this decision. The company is moving their Santa Monica headquarters into a bigger, more state of the art location within the next year and they are looking to stay a dominant force in the gaming world for years to come.
