I have been a fan of Star Wars: Battlefront ever since me and my brother moved into a new house without internet. It was the only game we really enjoyed playing for months on end and never got bored of. I still continue to play Battlefront 2 at least once a month via steam. However with the announcement of a new Battlefront game this E3 I was torn. Will it be as good? Will EA take the concept too seriously and possible change the series forever?
Not only am I a Battlefront fan but I am a Battlefield fan. Battlefield, developed by Dice (currently the Developer of Star Wars: Battlefront) takes a more serious approach to shooters. From the short piece of footage we saw at E3 this looks like the approach they will be taking with the new Star Wars: Battlefront. However If Dice does take a more serious approach to the series we could be in for a game similar to Star Wars: Republic Commando.
A large question in my mind is: “What features will they take out or bring back?” Will there be Space Battles? Will there be Galactic Conquest? Will they implement Jedi as playable characters?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to the new game, but that’s just what it will be ‘a new game.’ Judging by Dice’s previous work as a Battlefield Developer along with the teaser we saw at E3 we shouldn’t expect Battlefront 3 but rather a Battlefront Reboot as it was named in the teaser. Another possibility is that Dice releases it as an arcade style or smaller game a la Battlefield 1943.
All of this is speculation of course, all we can hope is that our questions will be answered in the coming months. But for now we should expect a different experience.
