The Beginning
It’s almost been 3 years since I joined my guild. My most memorable gaming moments have been with my fellow guild mates. Playing with like minded individuals always made games more enjoyable. At the time I was excited for the upcoming game Star Wars: The Old Republic, so I decided to join a guild almost 2 years before the game came out. It’s a bit crazy, but I must of spent hours going through the forums looking for the guild that suited me best. Since then our guild has expanded out to other games.
Finding the Best Guild for You
Not all guilds are the same, finding the right one for you may take some time. The first question you need to ask yourself, “What do you want?”. Guilds range from casual to hardcore. Casual guilds are for your everyday gamer who does not want any obligations but wants to enjoy the game with others. Hardcore guilds are for dedicated people who want to accomplish certain goals with rigorous time commitments. Most guilds specialize in one or two categories such as;
- PvP guilds focus on Player vs Player content.
- Roleplay guilds are for people who want to play and talk in-character.
- Raiding focus on end game instances that normally require 10 or more people cooperating together.
- All purpose focus on all aspects of a game without really specializing in one area.
There are many more sub categories of guilds but these are the most common found in any game.
Rewards
The most valuable rewards that you can get from a guild are the friends you meet. I have had countless memories with friends I have made in my guild. I’ve been as far as not playing a game unless I can play with my friends. In some games being in a guild offers beneficial in game rewards. Some may be miniscule as giving everyone a 5% experience bonus on quest completion to a majestic pet or mount.
If you want to enjoy a game to its full potential, I implore you to find a guild.
Sometimes they’re called clans or in some games they might a different name for them. But they all provided the same fundamental experience. The best way to find a guild is to visit the game’s official website or fan site forums. Good luck on your search!
