Throwback Thursday: Looking Back at Killer 7

Taking a look back at one of the best Suda51 games: Killer 7.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Killer 7 is the first game of Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51, that was imported to America. It was released in 2005 for the GameCube and Playstation 2; although it was intended to be a GameCube exclusive while being produced by Grasshopper Manufacture This game and most of Suda’s games received mixed reviews, as he seems to have a niche following.

The player controls a central character that can transform into seven different assassins. The player must kills NPCs for the government utilizing the different abilities of the seven assassins. The enemies in the game are refered to as Heaven Smiles. The player cannot see the Smiles unless they switch to first person view although most of the game is maneuvered in third person.

Killer 7 was the first time that Suda was able to show his amazing art style to America and I was astonished. This game utilizes cell shading to the past generation consoles best ability. The game looked amazing at the time of production and still doesn’t look bad by any means.

If you have not had a chance to play Killer 7 it isn’t a bad idea to take a look into it. Suda is knows for the obscure art style and character development, but these are more the reason to love his games. Ever since the launch of Killer 7 I have been addicted to Suda’s art style and oddball gameplay. He never fails to change things up from the stereotypical shooter or action game.
