When it comes to video games, the musical score is huge and can make or break a game. Music enhances a gamer’s experience, controls the mood within a game, and sets the atmosphere of your favorite towns, levels, and dungeons. The catchiest tunes will have me humming or whistling along at times without even realizing it!
Needless to say, I love video game music! And that is why I will be heading to Wolf Trap’s Filene Center this July to see Video Games Live.
Video Games Live (VGL) is a concert event produced and hosted by world renowned game industry veteran and composer, Tommy Tollarico, which features video game music from some of the greatest games of all time, including: Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, and Warcraft. The best orchestras and choirs perform accompanied by large screens, which deliver synchronized video footage from each game (allowing the audience to relive their favorite moments). To top it all off, interactive live action segments are also performed on-stage during the musical performance, which creates a unique and entertaining experience (The Metal Gear Solid segment in a previous VGL concert featured an alerted guard with a signature “exclamation point” over his head).
Now, I’ve been to multiple video game concerts before, but I can’t wait to see Video Games Live! The fan interactivity makes VGL unique in comparison to other shows I’ve seen, and it’s a huge selling point for me. I already know this is going to be an amazing show (and probably the best one yet)…I simply cannot wait!
