What’s This Magitek Armor Doing in Final Fantasy XIV: ARR?

I wonder if Magitek rusts..

Those of us not timely enough to have watched the 6th Producer Letter aren’t quite left out: Square Enix has uploaded a video showing off Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s Magitek mounts and they look very familiar in more ways than one.

Producer Naoki Yoshida wanted something special. Something fitting these guidelines:

  • There must be three riders
  • They must be traversing a snowy mountain trail
  • The girl must look like a former imperial soldier suffering from amnesia who is being controlled by the Empire with a Slave Crown

And by George, that is what he (and we) got!

Celes, Biggs, and Wedge were recreated, plopped into the gorgeous Magitek mounts, and made to give a recreation of that memorable opening scene from Final Fantasy 6. While the video does not feature “the shot” (You know which one!) due to time constraints, there is a screenshot to touch you in your nostalgia place:

I don’t know whether to get hyped or to just play Final Fantasy 6 again.
