The highly anticipated Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are coming out this Saturday and information is constantly being released about the difference between the two versions. As with every generation, each version has Pokémon exclusive to it. The probability of encountering certain Pokémon also differs between each version. The addition of Mega evolutions for select Pokémon offers even more exclusivity for each version.
Mega Charizard X and Y
One of the most famous Pokémon in history gets not only one, but two versions of Mega evolution. Mega evolution can only be done in battle and the Pokémon has to hold a stone that causes it. There are stones exclusive to each version that make Charizard evolve.
Mega Charizard X undergoes the biggest transformation. His color changes to black and blue and his flames turn blue. His secondary type of Flying also changes to Dragon. Perhaps the biggest changes are his stats and ability. His attack rises in this form and he gains the ability Tough Claws, which raises the damage of physical attacks. Mega Charizard X also gains the attack Dragon Tail, a very strong physical Dragon move. This huge switch can really turn the tide of battle.
Mega Charizard Y is more like the original Charizard, but it still has some visual differences. The secondary type stays Flying, but his Special Attack gets increased. The ability Drought is gained, which raises the damage of fire attacks, as well as the powerful fire attack, Blast Burn.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y
Mega Mewtwo X gains muscles along with the secondary type of Fighting. Attack is raised with this Mega Evolution and the strong attack Giga Impact. It also gets the ability Steadfast, which raises Speed every time it flinches.
Mega Mewtwo Y gets smaller and the tail moves to its head. Its already high Special Attack is raised even higher and it gains the ability attack Psystrike to take advantage of that. The ability Insomnia will prevent Sleep effects from working, making it much harder to defeat.
The best part about the Mega Evolution stones is that they can be traded. For example, if you are getting Pokemon X, but want Mega Charizard Y, you can still get it if you trade with someone. It might be hard to convince someone to part with their unique evolution stone though, unless they want the version you have.
What do you think of the differences so far? Do these Mega Evolutions persuade you to get one version over the other? Discuss your favorites in the comments below.
