No matter what you choose to do in New World, you’ll need to master crafting. There are a variety of different resources you’ll need to find to make various items, one of which is thick hide. Thick hide turns into leather and is vital in crafting both armor and extra bags that expand your inventory. But how do you get thick hide?
Since you’ll want to stockpile a bit of it for whatever you need, this tips guide goes over how to get thick hide in Amazon’s PC MMORPG.
How to Level Tracking and Skinning
The first thing fans should know about thick hide is that it drops from various animals that are Level 40 and up, so you’ll need to be about Level 40 before you can start finding it.
You’ll also need to have sufficiently leveled the Tracking and Skinning skills in order to bump up your chances. Killing and skinning any kind of animal in any of the game’s zones will help you level up both skills, but hunting predators like wolves and bears is the quickest way to level.
Where to Get Thick Hide
There’s a wide variety of animals that have a chance of dropping thick hide and are viable for farming:
- Alligator
- Bison
- Black Bear
- Boar
- Bobcat
- Damned Hound
- Elk Bull
- Elk Cow
- Grizzly Bear
- Lynx
- Mountain Lion
- Primal Lion
- Strange Alligator
- Strange Boar
- Strange Bison
- Strange Elk
- Timber Wolf
Hunting, killing, and skinning any of these animals carry a high chance of yielding thick hide, but it seems like the animals in the Restless Shore area have a higher percentage of yielding the crafting item. No matter where you hunt, however, you’re likely to get some thick hide after a few kills. Just keep at it!
With that in mind, there are two potential other ways of getting thick hide. There’s a small chance you can scavenge thick hide from dead enemies and supply caches. Your other option is to go to the Trading Post in any settlement and see if there are other players selling it. That’s not the most reliable method, however, so your best bet is to get your hands dirty and do the hunting yourself.
