Latest Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch is 40GB on Xbox One

The latest update for Assassin's Creed Unity for Xbox One says it's 40GB, but it's not exactly what you think.

After there was a one-day delay of the latest Assassin’s Creed Unity patch, reports were coming in that the update was at a beefy 40 gigabytes — the size of the game. Ubisoft has responded and said that it is not an error, just a problem with updating the game they’ll be trying to fix.

The latest update, which includes updating the entire Paris city map, is supposed to clock in at 6.7GB. While there aren’t any known problems with the PS4 edition, Xbox One users have a 40GB download waiting.

An author from Kotaku noted that he didn’t have 40GB on his Xbox One hard drive to download the update, but he was still able to do it. This led to the belief that the patch was simply overwriting all the files in the game, and Ubisoft backed up that claim in their statement to the gaming website.

While there aren’t any problems with Assassin’s Creed Unity updating this way, it just takes a lot longer for Xbox One owners to get back into action. Ubisoft said in the statement that they will be working with Microsoft to fix the problem.

Among the list of changes for the over 6GB update is the following general fixes:

  • Frame rate issues.
  • Game freezes/crashes.
  • Progression not being saved correctly.
  • Gameplay navigation.
  • Lock picking glitches.
  • Online connectivity.
  • Online matchmaking.

An update for the PC version will be released later this week. Not only is Ubisoft still struggling to get Assassin’s Creed Unity working properly, but they’re even running into problems making the updates work on certain consoles.
