At today’s Paradox Announcement Show, Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive revealed Cities: Skylines 2 just days before the original hit city builder Cities: Skylines turns 8. Saving the best for last, the trailer was met with thunderous applause. Here is what we know so far.
Cities: Skylines 2 is looking to be more realistic, with more freedom to create a city of your dreams. It will be releasing sometime in 2023 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass Day 1, meaning subscribers can access it at no extra cost.
While the announcement trailer doesn’t show actual gameplay footage, Colossal Order’s CEO, Mariina Hallikainen, states there are additional tools for fully realized economic systems, advanced modding tools and more in the sequel. Featuring advanced construction capabilities with numerous customization possibilities, Colossal Order is using what they learned and developed in the first game and taking it to new heights.
Seeking to “revolutionize the city-builder genre again” we can only expect great things from the next installment. With five million new players joining the Cities: Skylines gaming community last year alone, there is a large fanbase eager for new content.
More information is to come in the next few months, but the Achievement List has already been posted online. Could this mean that the release date is closer than expected? Possibly. For those waiting to build new cities, time will tell when the city builder will official release.
Stay tuned to this space for more news and updates on Cities: Skylines 2.
